What is an Abortion?

An abortion is a medical procedure performed to terminate a pregnancy or for birth control. You can choose to either have a medical abortion or through quick abortion pill and tablets, or an in-clinic procedure referred to as surgical abortion. After our doctor conducts the initial examination, they will be able to advise you on the best procedure to undertake.

Medical Abortion (Abortion Pill)

This method of pregnancy termination is available to women who are less than ten weeks into their pregnancy. It is a safe method that is preferred by a majority of women because they can undergo the process in the comfort of their homes. Our medical personnel are trained to ensure you are well prepared and at ease before the process begins, and that you are equipped with all the necessary information.

You will take your first Mifepristone (Mifeprex) also known as RU 486 pill orally at our office. After 24 -48 hrs of taking the First Pill we will give you second set of pills (Misoprostol), and within the next few hours, you’ll experience light to heavy bleeding and cramping. This may last for several hours.

Surgical Abortion

Shouild this method be selected due to pregnancy timing or other factors, the decision whether your surgical abortion will be conducted in the clinic or in hospital will depend on your medical history, stage of pregnancy, physical exam and lab tests.

Follow up Visit

We recommend you return to our clinic for a follow-up visit usually between 2-3 weeks after the process. During you followup visit the staff will perform an ultrasound to make sure the abortion process is completed successfully

We have one set fee, which includes: physician consult, ultrasound, procedure and follow-up appointment. There are absolutely NO hidden costs. Our fee depends on gestational age (weeks of pregnancy). Her Smart Choice Medical Center has contracts with all major insurance companies (HMO and PPO), and Medi-Cal. How much of the cost that will be covered (if any) varies greatly between each insurance company.
